Ann Simonton

Media activist Ann Simonton, once a top fashion model, now travels internationally to present her compelling expose on the disturbing consequences of corporate owned media. Simonton appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated and Seventeen, and on the pages of Glamour, Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Women’s Day, Bride and many other national magazines. She also appeared on dozens of national television commercials before turning her back on this lucrative career to dedicate her life to exposing commercial media’s bias.

Ms. Simonton is one of the nation’s leading authorities on the effects of media images and you may have seen her on Dr. Phil, Oprah, Larry King Live, Entertainment Tonight or CNN’s Crossfire. She is the founder and Director of Media Watch, the organization who, according to the Wall Street Journal, successfully convinced Dodge-Chrysler to pull their financial support of a Lingerie Bowl, where women in underwear played football during a Super Bowl Half Time show. Simonton was given the Feminist Heroine of the year Award, her autobiographical writings have been published by Harper & Row and her educational videos have garnered national acclaim. Don’t Be a TV: Television Victim, received the Silver Apple Award from the National Educational Video and Film Festival. And last but not least, Simonton has been arrested and jailed 11 times for her courageous, non-violent and often humorous protests.
