Lesbian Parents? No Child Abuse

The Williams Institute, a research center on sexual orientation law and public policy at UCLA School of Law, has announced new findings from the U.S. National Longitudinal Lesbian Family Study (NLLFS), the longest-running study ever conducted on American lesbian families (now in its 24th year). In an article published today in the Archives of Sexual Behavior, the 17-year-old daughters and sons of lesbian mothers were asked about sexual abuse, sexual orientation, and sexual behavior.
The paper found that none of the 78 NLLFS adolescents reports having ever been physically or sexually abused by a parent or other caregiver. This contrasts with 26 percent of American adolescents who report parent or caregiver physical abuse and 8.3 percent who report sexual abuse.
According to the authors, “the absence of child abuse in lesbian mother families is particularly noteworthy, because victimization of children is pervasive and its consequences can be devastating. To the extent that our findings are replicated by other researchers, these reports from adolescents with lesbian mothers have implications for healthcare professionals, policymakers, social service agencies, and child protection experts who seek family models in which violence does not occur.”
On sexual orientation, 2.8 percent of the NLLFS adolescents identified as predominantly to exclusively homosexual.
The study was conducted by Nanette Gartrell, M.D., Henny Bos, Ph.D. (University of Amsterdam), and Naomi Goldberg, M.P.P. (Williams Institute). Principal investigator Nanette Gartrell, M.D., is a 2010 Williams Distinguished Scholar, an associate clinical professor of psychiatry at UCSF, and affiliated with the University of Amsterdam.

  2. Ben, This study in no way makes your experience irrelevant or less important. The study merely suggests that this group had a statistically relevant correlation between the amount of reported abuse and lesbian mothers. We again are so sad this happened to you and send you much love and compassion toward your healing and growth.

  3. Thank you for your kind words.
I don`t think the study was done in a manner that would allow any negative results, using wanted children as opposed to unwanted children would be one way of achieving this. they should do a study were they ask everyone about child abuse and who was the abuser, you will get alot more than just 80 or so answers. I found offensive how they could make such a claim after doing such a small study. there is abuse everywhere, in too many families, to claim that a group of people never abuse children is just wrong, and doing such a small study on an ideal sample of that population is a massive injustice. another injustice is police officers not arresting these violent criminals who would harm their own families.
thanks to admin for actually having a comment on this. you are right that no child deserves such hate

  4. Dear Ben, We are very sorry this happened to you. No child deserves such hate. We reported a study and obviously the findings go against your personal experience. Thank your for sharing your experience and we hope you can overcome this trauma and share love with others in your life. May this horror that happened to you, give you the courage to work to stop such abuse for other vulnerable children.

  5. . I was thoroughly abused by my lesbian mother , and several of her lesbian friends over the course of several years. I would say one fifth of her lesbian mates were abusive towards me, and there are several police reports to prove this.
you cannot classify the whole group of lesbian parents to have there hands clean of abuse like this, its wrong to say it.
I highly doubt that all lesbians are abusive either. but I can say from experience that they are not all innocent

Pauline Wilson, who lives at 434 Maple street Sudbury Ontario Canada is an angry, and violent lesbian. she likes to abuse little boys while she screams about men. It was mostly she who Physically, violently, sexually, and emotionally abused me severely for several years, Until I had to emancipate myself at the age of 12. she used to beat me alot, and at one point she even threatened to cut off my penis, she picked me up and threw me against the wall, now I have back problems. she would scream and scream for hours. Her and my mother, used to claim that all men are the same, they only want on thing, etc. My mother used to ignore my cries for help, letting Pauline do whatever she wanted to me.and when i was much younger, before Pauline, My mother duct taped me to the bed and I couldnt move until the police arrived.
My mothers name is Sophie Mathild Baker and she also resides in sudbury ontario
