JUNE 2011

My father
"I watched a small man with thick calluses on both hands work fifteen and sixteen hours a day. I saw him once literally bleed from the bottoms of his feet, a man who came here uneducated, alone, unable to speak the language, who taught me all I needed to know about faith and hard work by the simple eloquence of his example."

– Mario Cuomo

Would you be silent if you overheard same sex parents being actively berated by a waiter? Where, would you guess, are people more likely to speak up?

In New York City or in a small Texan town? Check out this moving segment to find out.

In a more civilized society such political rubbish would fail to have any impact because people of conscience would dismiss it outright. Not so today. The Young Turks (TY)T ran a good piece on this absurd political smear campaign. TYTs are based in Los Angeles as is Janice Hahn who is running in a special election for an open seat.

Emily’s List is helping raise funds to combat this garbage and help Ms. Hahn win this election. Sad to see people of color engage in making such junk.

Thanks to Save The Internet and Free Press tens of thousands of people have voiced their opposition to At&T's takeover of T-Mobile.AT&T has become so desperate to spin this merger as good for Americans that it's resorting to lies, bribery and deception:

1. When pressed about the overwhelming public opposition to the merger, AT&T lobbyist Bob Quinn said, "It's not a public opinion poll," and that our comments don't matter!

2. AT&T has pressured not-for-profit groups that collectively receive $62 million in funding from the company to sign form letters in support of the merger, despite strong opposition from their members.

3. When Free Press confronted AT&T with indisputable evidence that the gobbling up of a competitor will result in fewer choices, not more, AT&T doubled down on its lie, claiming that we were "long on rhetoric and short on substance."

Please let the FCC know you are against this merger.

It is difficult not to smirk over a man that carries the name Weiner and who is then led around so publicly by his own. How is it men in public positions imagine they can get away with such behavior? Public representatives will continue such behavior toward women until the day when women no longer fear coming forward.

Media Watch encourages everyone to help support the young West African woman who is willing to stand up to Dominique Strauss-Kahn, former director of the International Monetary Fund. Her identity was outed by the French Press and her own daughter is unable to visit her. Please sign this petition to support of this brave young hotel worker and give to the woman's fund to help her with some financial support.

This ad, which ran in YOU magazine for shoe stores located throughout South Africa has been pulled. The magazine's editor wrote, "To our readers: thank you for taking the time to show your support against the abuse of animals."

What is not clearly voiced in the retraction of this ad is that this act is done to appease men's sexual fetish and is most often accomplished by someone who is being paid to satisfy this horrific fetish some men have.

Please consider writing to Ms. Hamman. Here is a sample letter you can use or copy excerpts from: Dear Ms. Hamman, Shoe City Marketing Director; Thank you for suspending your ad campaign and for finacially supporting Animal Anti-Cruelty groups. We are writing to ask you to consider also sending money to support groups that help women get out of prostitution. What remains to be addressed is the fact that many women and girls don't carry out this act willingly. A young street prostitute describes her "job" to Diane Sawyer in a special entitled, "Prostitution in America." She shares her self-loathing for doing what johns ask her to do, like killing small animals.
